Contemporary Cottage In Little Compton - Little Compton, RI - East Bay Region RI Vacation Rental
Lovely contemporary cottage available for weekend getaways, holiday weeks, New England summers, and cozy fall/winter excursions. We just recently completed a complete renovation to the highest standards. Panoramic westerly water views and Sunsets over the Sakonnet River from the master bed balcony. Great artwork, funky antiques, granite/stainless kitchen, claw foot tub, two custom baths, two gas fireplaces, antique pine flooring, vintage radiators, and cool custom/vintage materials give this cottage a clean, contemporary and interesting feel.
The cottage features a 30 x 15 Master suite with a built-in fireplace, king size bed, private bath, and french doors to a mahogany balcony overlooking the Sakonnet. Lower level is smallish, with a 20 x 12 kitchen/living area (with another fireplace), a bedroom with bunk bed (double mattress on the bottom, single on top) a sitting/tv/reading room with daybeds, and a great custom bathroom. There's a mahogany front porch, vintage cobblestone patio, and a fantastic hot/cold mahogany outdoor shower. Rear deck has a gas grill and dining table.
Its not a party house, its a tasteful little cottage, ok for entertaining in the summer but smallish for winter indoor dinners of more than 4 adults. I think the house is a perfect romantic weekend getaway any time of the year, or great retreat for a young family. Fall and winter getaways are especially nice with two gas fireplaces for warmth and ambiance, high-density foam insulation to keep the chill out, and old-fashioned hot water cast iron radiators that provide awesome heat.
Little Compton is a charming New England seaside town that has maintained it colonial charm through three centuries. Stone walls, pastures, farm stands, fresh seafood, sandy beaches, nature walks, Christmas Tree Farms, artist's studios, antiques stores -- all within minutes.
This is from a 7/28/13 article in the Providence Journal:
"What the state’s historical commission wrote in a survey report about the town in 1986 remains true today: “Isolated and remote, Little Compton has been relatively free from the political pressures or economic forces that have transformed much of the rest of Rhode Island into a dense, urban and suburban metropolis.”
“The town’s resistance to change — at first a result of its isolation, later due to deliberate decisions — has preserved a remarkable legacy,” the report added. “... Little Compton presents an idyllic picture, complete with rolling topography, a quiltwork pattern of stone-wall-bounded farms and woodland, complemented by marshes, saltwater ponds, barrier beaches, a rocky promontory at Sakonnet Point, old farm complexes, comfortable summer houses, winding roads, and tree-lined villages.”
Newport is approx 30 minutes away, Providence or Boston an hour or so. Walk 100 yards to a private, secluded beach at the end of our street, or a short drive to numerous other beaches, nature trails, the town commons, Sakonnet Vineyards, Christmas tree farms, artists studios and antique shops.
